Please read these terms before you use this store or place an order. When you use the site or buy from us, you agree to them.

1. About us

Gist of Light is a sole proprietorship in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. We make handmade coconut soy candles and related products, and we sell them through this store and at Okanagan markets.

2. Using this site

By using this site you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that you use it under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Use the site only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of others.

We can restrict access to any part of the site at any time without notice, and we can change or remove content without notice.

3. Orders

When you place an order you make an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we send you an order confirmation email.

We can cancel or refuse an order at our discretion, for example because of a pricing error, suspected fraud, or because a product is unavailable. If we cancel your order, we refund it in full.

All prices are in Canadian dollars. Prices can change without notice. The price you pay is the total shown at checkout.

4. Payment

We accept major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Shop Pay through Shopify Payments. Payment is taken in full at the time of purchase. We do not store your card details.

5. Products

Our candles are made by hand in batches. Small differences in colour, texture, and fragrance strength can occur between batches. These are normal in handmade goods and are not faults.

Colours in product photos can differ slightly from the candle you receive, because of lighting, screen calibration, and natural variation in the wax.

Candle safety

When you buy our candles you agree to follow safe practice:

Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Keep candles away from children and pets.
Burn on a heat-resistant surface, away from anything that can catch fire.
Do not burn for more than four hours at a time.
Trim the wick to 6 mm before each burn.
Stop using the candle when 1 cm of wax remains.
A tin candle gets hot on the outside. Put it on a heat-resistant surface and do not move it while it is lit.

Gist of Light is not liable for damage, injury, or loss caused by unsafe candle use.

6. Intellectual property

All content in this store, including the Gist of Light name and logo, product photography, scent names, descriptions, and website copy, is the property of Gist of Light and is protected under Canadian copyright and intellectual property law.

Do not reproduce, copy, distribute, or use our content without written permission. You are welcome to share our content on social media with attribution.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gist of Light is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages that arise from your use of this site or our products. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid for the product that the claim is about.
