Description
Some candles are cozy. Some are calming. This one is bright — the kind of candle you light when you want your home to feel like a sunny afternoon in a French pâtisserie, where something citrusy and beautiful just came out of the oven.
The Lemon Velvet Tart is a hand-poured dessert candle that opens with a burst of fresh lemon zest and settles into warm vanilla custard and soft pastry. It’s one of the most uniquely scented food-scented candles in our collection — simultaneously fresh and indulgent, citrus-sharp and cream-smooth in a way that’s genuinely difficult to pull off and deeply satisfying when it works.
The scent, layer by layer
The top note is unmistakably lemon: clean, bright, and zesty, without the harsh synthetic edge that cheaper citrus candles often carry. It smells like actual lemon peel — the oil you’d squeeze from a fresh lemon into a mixing bowl — rather than lemon cleaning product.
As the wax warms and pools, the citrus note softens into the heart: warm vanilla custard, the smooth richness of a freshly-set tart filling. There’s a subtle hint of pastry underneath — buttery, flaky, bakery-warm — that anchors the whole fragrance and keeps it from feeling too clean or too sharp.
The base settles into soft, creamy vanilla that lingers long after the flame goes out. The overall effect is uplifting and comforting at once — which is a genuinely rare combination in a candle.
When to burn it
This is a daytime candle. A spring morning candle. A Sunday afternoon with the windows open candle. It works brilliantly in kitchens, dining rooms, and bright living spaces where you want fragrance that feels light and joyful rather than heavy or sedating.
It’s also one of our most popular gifting candles for spring and summer — the lemon-forward scent profile travels well across seasons and appeals to people who gravitate toward fresh, clean-smelling home fragrance rather than heavy, musky warmth.
The coconut soy difference: why citrus candles are hard to get right
Citrus is one of the most volatile fragrance families in candle-making. The bright top notes — the lemon zest, the fresh peel — evaporate quickly at high temperatures, which is why so many paraffin citrus candles smell amazing in the jar and then disappoint the moment you light them.
Our coconut soy wax blend solves this problem at the source. Because coconut soy burns at a lower, more consistent temperature than paraffin, fragrance oils release gradually rather than all at once. The top notes — the bright lemon — stay present throughout the burn rather than burning off in the first thirty minutes. What you get is a sustained, true-to-fragrance scent experience from the first light to the last.
It also burns cleaner, produces less soot, and lasts longer: our 10 oz Lemon Velvet Tart candle burns for 55–65 hours, which is exceptional for a candle at this price point.
Phthalate-free fragrance, honestly chosen
Like all our candles, the Lemon Velvet Tart uses a premium phthalate-free fragrance oil. Phthalates are chemical compounds sometimes added to fragrance oils to improve throw — but at a cost to indoor air quality that we’re not willing to accept. Our fragrance oils deliver a strong, lasting scent without them.
Made by hand in Kelowna, BC
The Okanagan Valley has a long relationship with citrus and stone fruit — the valley is warm and sun-drenched in summer in a way that most of Canada isn’t, and the fruit that comes out of it carries that warmth. The Lemon Velvet Tart is a nod to that: bright, seasonal, and rooted in a sense of place that feels genuinely Okanagan.
Every candle is poured by hand in small batches in our Kelowna studio. Small-batch production means consistency: we’re not scaling up at the cost of quality, and every candle that leaves the studio is one we’ve poured ourselves and are genuinely proud of.
Who it’s made for
The Lemon Velvet Tart is the candle for lemon lovers, citrus obsessives, people who keep Meyer lemons in a bowl on their counter, and anyone who finds heavy musky candles a bit much.
It’s an excellent birthday gift, spring gift, or housewarming present — particularly for people who are particular about their home fragrance. It also makes a beautiful addition to a gift set paired with the Blueberry Waffles or Strawberry Shortcake for a dessert-themed gifting trio.

Candle care
First burn is critical: allow the wax to melt fully to the jar’s edges — approximately 2.5–3 hours for this 10 oz size. Soy and coconut wax have memory; a short first burn creates a tunnel that the candle will follow for its entire life.
Trim the wick to ¼ inch before every burn. Maximum 4 hours per burn session. Keep away from drafts and direct sunlight. Discontinue use when ¼ inch of wax remains. The jar is reusable once the candle is spent.
